Dekompenzáció

Dekompenzáció refers to the stage of a disease or medical condition where the body's compensatory mechanisms are no longer sufficient to maintain normal function. This signifies a worsening of the underlying illness, leading to a decline in the patient's overall health and an increase in symptoms.

In many chronic diseases, the body initially adapts to the pathological process. For example, in heart failure, the heart may enlarge or beat faster to maintain blood circulation. However, with disease progression, these compensatory mechanisms eventually fail. This failure is termed dekompenzáció.

Symptoms of dekompenzáció vary depending on the specific condition. In heart failure, this might manifest as increased shortness of breath, swelling in the legs and ankles, and fatigue. In liver disease, dekompenzáció can lead to jaundice, ascites (fluid buildup in the abdomen), and confusion. Respiratory conditions might present with worsening breathlessness, increased coughing, and mucus production.

Dekompenzáció often requires medical intervention to stabilize the patient and manage the acute exacerbation of symptoms. Treatment strategies aim to restore the body's balance and prevent further deterioration. This can involve medications, lifestyle adjustments, and sometimes hospitalization.
