DeGeneres is a surname most widely associated with Ellen DeGeneres, an American comedian, actress, and former television host. Born January 26, 1958, in Metairie, Louisiana, she began as a stand-up comedian in the 1980s and rose to prominence with the television sitcom Ellen (1994–1998). In 1997, she publicly came out as gay, a landmark moment in television and LGBTQ visibility.

DeGeneres gained broad fame as host of The Ellen DeGeneres Show (2003–2022), a daytime talk program known for its upbeat tone, celebrity interviews, and philanthropic segments. She also pursued voice acting, notably voicing Dory in Finding Nemo (2003) and Finding Dory (2016). Her other TV work includes hosting the game show Ellen's Game of Games (2017–2021). She is married to Portia de Rossi since 2008.
