Defraggler

Defraggler is a disk defragmentation utility for Windows developed by Piriform, a software company that was later acquired by Avast. Unlike the built-in Windows defragmenter, Defraggler can defragment individual files or folders as well as entire drives, and it can consolidate free space to reduce future fragmentation. It operates with its own defragmentation algorithms and provides a reporting interface that shows drive fragmentation, file fragmentation, and fragmentation trends.

The program supports common Windows file systems, including NTFS and FAT32, and is available in a standard installer edition as well as a portable version that can run from removable media without installation. Features historically include quick defragment, full drive defragmentation, and a boot-time defrag option for files that are in use by the system. It also allows users to exclude particular files or directories from defragmentation and to analyze a drive before performing any changes.

Defraggler was first released in 2009 by Piriform. After Piriform was acquired by Avast, Defraggler continued to be distributed under Avast’s umbrella as part of its software lineup. The tool is positioned as a lightweight alternative to the Windows defragmenter, offering file-level optimization and portable usage for users seeking targeted defragmentation and flexible deployment.
