Debindung
Debindung is a manufacturing step that involves removing the binder from a shaped part produced by powder-based processes such as metal injection molding (MIM) or ceramic injection molding, and from binder-based additive manufacturing. The binder binds fine powder into a green body that preserves shape prior to sintering. Debindung prepares the part for subsequent densification by reducing binder content to a level that can be safely burnt off or volatilized during sintering.
Debinding can be accomplished through several methods. Solvent debinding dissolves the soluble portion of the binder
Challenges include cracking, warping, or blistering due to rapid binder removal or uneven diffusion of binder.
Applications encompass metal injection molding, ceramic injection molding, and binder-based 3D printing. Debindung is a routine
