Datténuer

Datténuer is not a standard entry in French dictionaries. It appears to be a mistaken or nonstandard spelling of the verb atténuer, or a contracted form written with no apostrophe as d’atténuer in contexts where de is followed by an infinitive. In normal usage, the correct form is atténuer, with d’atténuer occurring only in phrases that require the de + infinitive construction.

Atténuer means to reduce, lessen, or moderate the intensity, degree, or severity of something. It can describe physical phenomena, perceptions, or abstract effects. The word is used across many domains to convey a decrease in strength or impact. The term is often paired with qualifiers such as légèrement, fortement, ou progressive afin de precise the degree of reduction.

Etymology: atténuer derives from Latin attenuare, from tenuis “thin, slim.” It is a regular -er verb in French conjugation: j’atténue, tu atténues, il atténue, nous atténuons, vous atténuez, ils atténuent.
