DaimlerBenz

Daimler-Benz AG, commonly referred to as Daimler-Benz, was a German multinational automotive manufacturer formed in 1926 by the merger of Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG) and Benz & Cie. The merger united two major German engineering traditions and gave rise to the Mercedes-Benz brand, with the three-pointed star symbolizing motorization “on land, on water, and in the air.” The company was headquartered in Stuttgart, with major production facilities at Untertürkheim and other sites.

Origins and products: DMG, founded in 1890 by Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach, and Benz & Cie, founded in 1883 by Karl Benz, merged to create a company focused on both passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Mercedes-Benz became the flagship marque, renowned for engineering quality, luxury, and performance. Daimler-Benz produced a wide range of automobiles and trucks, including notable diesel passenger cars and many milestone passenger vehicles in the mid-20th century.

World War II and aftermath: During the war, Daimler-Benz operated as a major supplier of military vehicles and equipment. Following the conflict, the company rebuilt its civilian automobile and truck lines and gradually reestablished itself as a leading European automaker, continuing to innovate in safety, performance, and comfort.

Merger and corporate evolution: In 1998 Daimler-Benz merged with the American carmaker Chrysler to form DaimlerChrysler AG. The corporate structure subsequently evolved, and the group was later renamed Mercedes-Benz Group AG, with the Mercedes-Benz brand remaining its core product line. The Daimler-Benz legacy is thus carried forward in the modern Mercedes-Benz corporate and brand framework.
