DRBCP

DRBCP, or Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plan, is an integrated framework that combines disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity planning (BCP) to maintain essential operations during disruptions and to recover quickly. It covers people, processes, technology, facilities, and third-party dependencies, addressing threats such as natural disasters, cyber incidents, outages, and supply chain disruptions. The objective is to minimize downtime, protect critical data, and sustain stakeholder confidence and regulatory compliance.

It starts with governance and policy, followed by risk assessment and business impact analysis to identify critical functions and recovery priorities. Core elements include recovery objectives (RTO/RPO), incident response, communication plans, training, testing, and exercises. Plans describe roles, data protection, backup and restore procedures, alternate work arrangements, and supplier continuity. DRBCP is maintained through iterative development, testing, and updates to reflect changes in business processes and technology.

DRBCP aligns with standards such as ISO 22301 (business continuity) and ISO 22313 (guidance), as well as ISO 27001 and ISO 27031 for information security and ICT readiness. It is also informed by national frameworks such as NIST SP 800-34. Organizations tailor DRBCP to their size, sector, and risk profile.
