DLine
Dline, sometimes written D-Line, is a term with multiple uses but is most commonly associated with the defensive line in gridiron football. In football, the D-line consists of the players on the defensive front who line up on or near the line of scrimmage before the snap. Team schemes shape the exact makeup: a typical 4-3 defense features two defensive ends and two defensive tackles, while a 3-4 alignment uses three linemen, usually including a defensive end and two tackles. The D-line’s primary role is to stop the opponent’s running game at the line of scrimmage, disrupt or contain pass plays, and pressure the quarterback. Interior linemen focus on gap control and interior pressure, while edge players specialize in setting the edge and rushing the passer.
