DDR5 achieves its higher speeds through several architectural changes, such as a doubled burst length and increased bank groups. This allows for more data to be transferred per clock cycle. Power efficiency is improved through a lower operating voltage of 1.1V compared to DDR4's 1.2V, and the inclusion of a Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) on each DIMM module. This PMIC allows for more granular voltage regulation and better power control.
