The company traces its origins to a 1929 merger of the Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Company, founded by Glenn Curtiss, and the Wright Company, established by the Wright brothers.

After the merger, Curtiss-Wright produced aircraft engines, propellers, and airframe components, and gradually diversified into precision mechanical and electronic components. It has since supplied actuation systems, valves, seals, flow-control devices, and related subsystems used in aerospace, defense, energy, and space applications, alongside services such as engineering, testing, repair, and calibration.
