Cuffversterking

Cuffversterking is a term used in Dutch to describe methods for strengthening the cuff region of a garment or other product. It encompasses techniques to improve durability, shape retention, and comfort where the fabric is repeatedly opened, closed, or flexed.

In garment manufacturing, common approaches include adding a double layer of fabric at the cuff, applying interlining or fusible interfacing for stiffness, incorporating elastic or rib-knit cuffs for a snug fit, and finishing the edge with binding or topstitching. Reinforcements such as bar tacks, rivets, or stitched-in patches may be used at stress points like the cuff corners and button or snap closures.

The choice of materials depends on the desired balance of stiffness, durability, and comfort. Interlinings provide structure, while elastic or stretch fabrics offer flexibility. For outerwear or workwear, tougher fabrics and reinforced seams extend cuff life; for formal shirts, lighter interfacing yields a smoother drape.
