Csereszabatoság is a Hungarian term that translates to "cherry compatibility" or "cherry matchmaking." It refers to the practice of selecting specific cherry varieties that can be cross-pollinated to ensure successful fruit set and a good harvest. Cherry trees, like many fruit trees, often require cross-pollination from a different, compatible variety to produce fruit. This means that a single cherry tree of a specific variety may not bear fruit on its own if it's not self-fertile or if its pollinator variety is not present.

The concept of csereszabatoság is crucial for cherry growers, whether they are commercial farmers or home gardeners. Understanding which cherry varieties are compatible is essential for planting decisions. Factors influencing compatibility include the bloom time of the varieties and their genetic makeup.
