Advanced workflows may use multiple passes, masks, and layers to preserve texture, lighting, and perspective while restoring a seamless area.

Common tools include image editors such as Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, and Affinity Photo, which provide crop tools, content-aware fills, clone and healing brushes, and selection masks. Mobile apps also offer simplified versions for quick edits, though results may vary by device and image quality.

Applications span photography, graphic design, and archival restoration. Ethical considerations include accuracy and integrity; excessive or unseen removal can misrepresent content, so editors should document changes when appropriate, especially in journalistic, documentary, or scientific contexts.
