Corté

Corté is a small municipality in the fictional Veridia region of the country of Northvale. It lies in gently rolling hills beside the Corté River, about 20 kilometers north of the regional capital. The municipality covers an area of 12.8 square kilometers and had an estimated population of 7,600 in 2023. The name Corté is believed to derive from an old Veridian word meaning curve or cut, possibly referencing the river’s bends or historical courts.

Corté originated as a fortified settlement in the 12th century and grew around a market square. It passed under the rule of the Veridian duchy in the 15th century and became a municipal entity in 1832. The town is governed by a mayor and a nine-member council elected for four-year terms, with local administrations working with neighboring municipalities through a regional council.

The local economy blends agriculture, small-scale manufacturing, and crafts. Vineyards and orchards contribute to regional production, while tourism centers on historical sites and countryside recreation. The town maintains a network of roads linking it to the national highway; the nearest railway station lies a short distance away and there is no airport within the municipality.

Notable sites include the ruins of Corté Palace and the Church of St. Evariste. The annual Harvest Festival draws visitors with traditional music, crafts, and food. Education is served by a municipal primary school and a regional secondary school; healthcare is provided by a nearby clinic.
