Columnend

Columnend is a term used primarily in typesetting and digital page layout to denote the boundary at the end of a vertical column of content. In multi-column designs—common in newspapers, magazines, and many web layouts—each column holds a stream of text and other elements, and the column end marks where that stream terminates before content continues in the next column or on the next page.

In traditional typesetting, the column end is influenced by column width, line length, and editorial constraints. Designers may adjust the column end by inserting column breaks, balancing columns for even appearance, or using visual dividers such as rules or gutters to emphasize the end of a column. A column end can occur naturally when the text reaches the bottom of the column, or be forced to achieve a specific layout balance.

In computing and digital design, there is no universal technical feature named "columnend." Some layout engines, templating systems, or data grids may expose a columnEnd boundary as a parameter, variable, or index to control wrapping, rendering, or data export logic. In such contexts, columnEnd commonly represents the final column in a row or the point at which content should stop flowing within the current column.
