Cliptilaa

Cliptilaa is a term in digital video editing that refers to a defined spatial region on the composition canvas allocated to a single clip. It functions as a container or tile within a multi-clip layout, allowing editors to position, scale, and transform each clip independently while maintaining the overall frame composition.

The term is a compound of clip (from English) and tila, a Finnish word meaning space or area. It has appeared in Finnish-language editing tutorials and forums to describe the practice of organizing multiple video streams within a single frame.

A cliptilaa typically has attributes such as position (x, y), size (width, height), transform (rotation, scale), opacity, blending mode, and optional masking. In many software packages, cliptilaa behave like modular units that can be stacked, grouped, or animated with keyframes. They interact with the project's timeline to reflect changes over time.

Cliptilaa are used for picture-in-picture, split-screen effects, video walls, live streaming overlays, and procedural layouts where multiple clips must be arranged within a single frame. They enable consistent alignment and easier reflow when the canvas size changes.
