Citytv is a Canadian English-language television network owned by Rogers Sports & Media. It operates five local stations branded as Citytv in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg, delivering a mix of local news, entertainment, and lifestyle programming. The network’s news operation is carried under the CityNews banner, with each market producing its own local newscasts.

Citytv traces its origins to 1972, when CITY-TV launched in Toronto as part of CHUM Limited. The station developed a distinctive, fast-paced on-air style and produced popular locally oriented programs such as Breakfast Television and CityLine. Over time, the Citytv brand expanded to additional Canadian markets, establishing a multi-market presence that emphasized localism alongside entertainment programming.

In 2007 CHUM Limited was acquired by CTVglobemedia, and in 2011 Rogers Communications acquired Citytv as part of its purchase of CHUM. Since the acquisition, Citytv has operated as part of Rogers’s media portfolio, maintaining the Citytv branding while integrating with Rogers’ national distribution and production capabilities.

Programming on Citytv emphasizes local news under the CityNews banner, complemented by entertainment, lifestyle, and daytime programming. Markets may include locally produced shows in addition to nationally shared or syndicated content, with programs such as Breakfast Television in several cities and lifestyle series like CityLine.
