Chusovitina

Oksana Chusovitina is an Uzbekistani artistic gymnast. She is one of the oldest competitors in the history of artistic gymnastics and has competed at an elite level for over three decades. Chusovitina has represented Uzbekistan and Germany at various international competitions, including multiple Olympic Games and World Championships.

Born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in 1975, Chusovitina began her gymnastics career in the late Soviet era. She made her international debut in 1988. Her career has spanned multiple Olympic cycles, making her a unique figure in the sport. She has competed in a record eight Olympic Games, starting with the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and most recently at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Chusovitina is known for her longevity, consistent performance, and dedication to the sport. She has won medals at World Championships, including a gold medal on vault in 2003. She also holds the distinction of having a vault named after her, the Chusovitina, which is a handspring double front vault. Throughout her career, she has overcome various personal challenges, including raising a son with leukemia, which led her to compete for Germany for several years to access better medical treatment. She remains an inspiration to many in the gymnastics community and beyond.
