Chhogori

Chhogori, also known as K2, is the second highest mountain on Earth, located on the border between Pakistan and China. It is the highest peak in the Karakoram Range and is renowned for its extreme difficulty and dangerous ascent. The mountain's name "Chhogori" is a Balti word meaning "great mountain."

The first successful ascent of Chhogori was by an Italian expedition led by Ardito Desio in 1954. Achille Compagnoni and Lino Lacedelli were the first two climbers to reach the summit on July 31, 1954. Since then, numerous expeditions have attempted to climb Chhogori, but the summit remains one of the most challenging and deadly for mountaineers.

Chhogori's harsh weather conditions, including extreme cold, high winds, and frequent avalanches, contribute to its formidable reputation. The mountain's steep slopes, unpredictable weather, and technical climbing sections make it a significant test of skill, endurance, and psychological fortitude. Despite these dangers, it continues to attract climbers from around the world who seek to conquer its summit. The mountain has a high fatality rate, earning it the nickname "Savage Mountain."
