Chairkonformaatio, in chemistry, refers to the chair conformation of cyclohexane and related six‑membered rings. In this arrangement, substituents sit in axial or equatorial positions around the ring. The chair is the lowest‑energy form for unsubstituted cyclohexane because it minimizes angle strain and torsional strain.

Conformational interconversion occurs through a ring flip that interconverts the two chair forms and swaps axial and equatorial positions for all substituents. The flip proceeds via a higher‑energy transition state, often described as a twist‑boat or half‑chair. For cyclohexane, the energy barrier is on the order of about 10 kcal/mol, making interconversion rapid at room temperature in small or unsubstituted systems.
