Cenabum
Cenabum was an ancient Roman municipium founded in the late first century BCE within the province of Gallia Lugdunensis. The settlement was established as part of Emperor Augustus’ colonisation policy, intended to integrate the Gallic countryside into the Roman administrative and military framework. Its geographic position along the route between Lyon and Aquileia made it a convenient logistical node, facilitating the movement of troops and supplies across the empire.
Archaeological excavations at the site have uncovered a typical Roman urban layout, including a forum, basilica,
Cenabum reached its peak during the reign of Hadrian, when it was granted the status of municipium
