Cementek

Cementek is a term used in materials science and construction to denote a class of cement-based composites characterized by enhanced performance beyond traditional Portland cement mixes. The term is not tied to a single product and is used variably in academic and industry contexts to describe formulations that combine cement with supplementary cementitious materials, polymers, or nano-fillers to improve durability, crack resistance, and workability.

Common cementek formulations may include ordinary Portland cement blended with fly ash or slag, polymer emulsions, silica fume, and microfibers. The resulting microstructure can exhibit reduced permeability, increased flexural strength, and improved resistance to freeze-thaw cycles and sulfate attack. Some cementek variants aim for early strength gain or self-healing properties through encapsulated healing agents.

Manufacture follows standard concrete mixing practices: dry mixing of cementitious powders, addition of aggregates as needed, and thorough mixing with water and additives. Performance is evaluated with tests for compressive strength, flexural strength, modulus of elasticity, water absorption, and durability under aggressive environments.

Applications span infrastructure, marine environments, repair and retrofitting, and specialized 3D-printed construction where high buildability and rapid strength development are desired. The term is used more as a descriptor than a registered product, and specific suppliers may market variations under different brand names.

Regulatory frameworks rely on established cement and concrete standards, with the cementek formulations evaluated against relevant performance criteria rather than a single dedicated standard.
