Cembre
Cembre is a genus of flowering plants in the family Lamiaceae, commonly known as the moth orchids. These plants are native to the Mediterranean region and the Middle East. The genus Cembre contains several species, with Cembre incana being the most well-known and widely cultivated. Moth orchids are herbaceous perennials that typically grow from a woody base. They are characterized by their attractive, long-lasting flowers which come in a variety of colors, often shades of pink, purple, and white. The flowers are borne on erect spikes and are attractive to pollinators. The leaves of Cembre species are generally lance-shaped and can be silvery-green in appearance. These plants are often found in dry, rocky habitats, preferring well-drained soil and full sun. Due to their ornamental appeal, Cembre species are frequently used in Mediterranean-style gardens, rock gardens, and as ground cover in suitable climates. They are known for their drought tolerance once established, making them a low-maintenance choice for gardeners. Propagation is typically done through seeds or by dividing the rootstock. Some species may also be susceptible to root rot if overwatered.
