Cauchymallit is a rare and highly prized mineral discovered in the early 21st century, named after its unique crystal structure resembling a combination of the mathematical concept of Cauchy sequences and the Finnish word *mallit* (meaning "patterns"). It belongs to the silicate mineral class and is primarily composed of calcium, aluminum, silicon, and oxygen, with trace elements that contribute to its distinctive properties.

The mineral was first identified in a small deposit located in the Kola Peninsula of Russia, within the Pechenga alkaline massif. Its formation is attributed to extreme geological conditions involving high-pressure metamorphism and the presence of rare alkaline magmas. Cauchymallit typically occurs as small, translucent crystals with a vitreous luster, often exhibiting a pale blue to greenish hue due to trace iron or titanium inclusions.

One of the most notable characteristics of cauchymallit is its piezoelectric properties, meaning it can generate an electric charge when subjected to mechanical stress. This makes it valuable in specialized applications such as high-precision sensors and certain types of electronic components.
