Carmentian
Carmentian refers to anything associated with Carmenta, a Sabine goddess of prophecy and childbirth in Roman mythology. She was the mother of the seer Evander, who brought the worship of his mother to the Palatine Hill in Rome. Carmenta was also known by other names, including Nicodice. Her sanctuary, the Carmentalia, was located near the porta Carmentalis. The festival honoring her, also called the Carmentalia, was held on January 11 and January 15. During this festival, prayers were offered to her for protection during childbirth and for the well-being of newborns. The cult of Carmenta was particularly significant for women. Her association with prophecy suggests she was a figure who could offer guidance and foresight. The name Carmentian can therefore be used to describe religious practices, festivals, or anything directly linked to this Roman deity and her influence.
