CTkuvantauksessa, commonly known as CT scan or computed tomography, is a medical imaging technique that uses X-rays to create detailed cross-sectional images of the body. A CT scanner is a large, donut-shaped machine that takes multiple X-ray images from different angles around the body. These images are then processed by a computer to generate a comprehensive view of internal structures.

The procedure typically involves lying on a motorized table that moves through the center of the scanner. During the scan, the X-ray tube rotates around the patient, emitting beams of X-rays that pass through the body. Detectors on the opposite side measure the amount of X-ray that penetrates each tissue. Different tissues absorb X-rays to varying degrees, allowing the computer to differentiate between bone, soft tissues, and fluids.

CTkuvantauksessa is a non-invasive diagnostic tool used to visualize a wide range of medical conditions. It is particularly effective for examining bones, detecting tumors, identifying internal injuries, and guiding medical procedures such as biopsies. Contrast agents, which are substances that enhance the visibility of certain tissues or blood vessels, may be administered orally or intravenously to improve the clarity of the images. The entire scanning process is usually quick, often taking only a few minutes, though the preparation and image processing can extend the total time. The radiation dose from a CT scan is higher than from a standard X-ray but is carefully managed to be as low as reasonably achievable.
