CSNs

CSNs is a common abbreviation for Comcast SportsNet, a family of regional sports networks in the United States. The CSN networks produced and distributed local professional and collegiate sports programming, including live game telecasts, pre- and post-game shows, and related analysis and news tailored to each market. They were available on major cable and satellite providers and expanded their reach through online streaming and network websites.

History and branding

The CSN brand originated as a rebranding of various Fox Sports Net regional networks after Comcast expanded its holdings in several markets in the late 2000s. Over time, CSN operated in multiple regions, including Philadelphia, the San Francisco Bay Area, and other Atlantic and New England markets, providing localized sports coverage built around regional teams and events. The branding reflected Comcast’s ownership and partnership structures in each market and aimed to unify regional sports programming under the CSN banner.

Programming and reach

CSN networks focused on regional content, offering games and related programming that were not typically shown on national outlets. This included regular-season and occasional postseason games from local teams, as well as studio shows, highlights, and exclusive regional features. In addition to traditional cable distribution, CSN outlets extended their presence through online platforms, including streaming through provider apps and network websites, enabling fans to access regional content on multiple devices.

Current status

Beginning in the mid-2010s, the CSN networks were increasingly integrated into NBC Sports branding, with many markets rebranding to NBC Sports Regional Networks. The CSN name has since been used less publicly, though it is often referenced in historical or archival contexts. The networks remain part of NBCUniversal’s sports properties, continuing to serve regional markets with locally focused sports programming.
