CMRT

CMRT stands for Conflict Minerals Reporting Template, a standardized data collection form used to report information about conflict minerals in a product’s supply chain. It is developed and maintained by the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) and is widely used by electronics manufacturers and their suppliers to support due diligence on tin, tungsten, tantalum, and gold (3TG) in line with US SEC conflict minerals rules and OECD guidelines.

The CMRT provides a common framework for gathering and sharing data on a product’s 3TG content, including the origin of minerals, the smelters or refiners involved, and the supplier’s due diligence processes. It enables downstream customers to assess supply chain transparency, verify information, and identify potential risks. The template is designed to be submitted by suppliers and used by manufacturers to compile a product-level declaration.

Format-wise, the CMRT is distributed as a spreadsheet with multiple worksheets covering company information, product/material information, 3TG content, smelter/refiner data, and verification or certification statements. It includes fields for 3TG percentages, country of origin, and RMAP status (Responsible Minerals Assurance Process) of smelters/refiners, as well as guidance aligned with due diligence expectations.

History and governance: The CMRT originated in collaborations among industry groups and compliance initiatives and is maintained and updated by the Responsible Minerals Initiative to align with evolving regulatory expectations and best practices. It is regularly revised to reflect changes in regulations, industry standards, and supply-chain practices.

Adoption and limitations: While widely adopted across electronics and other sectors, CMRT data quality depends on supplier disclosures and may require corroboration. It is a reporting tool, not a substitute for independent audits or due-diligence verifications.
