CEST

Cest is a term used for more than one concept, most notably Central European Summer Time and the class of parasitic flatworms known as Cestoda.

Central European Summer Time (often abbreviated CEST, and sometimes written informally as “Cest”) is the daylight saving time observed by many European countries during the summer. CEST corresponds to Coordinated Universal Time plus two hours (UTC+2) and is the daylight-saving counterpart to Central European Time (CET, UTC+1). The period when CEST is in effect varies by jurisdiction, but it generally runs through the spring and summer months, ending in autumn. Not all European regions observe the same system, and some areas have different practices regarding daylight saving.

In biology, Cestodes (plural) are a class of parasitic flatworms within the phylum Platyhelminthes, commonly known as tapeworms. They inhabit the digestive tracts of vertebrates as endoparasites and are characterized by a strobila composed of a head-like scolex for attachment and a series of body segments called proglottids that contain reproductive organs. Cestodes lack a traditional digestive system and absorb nutrients directly through their body surface. Their life cycles typically involve one or more intermediate hosts before reaching their definitive host, which can include humans for certain species such as Taenia and Echinococcus.
