CBAP

CBAP stands for Certified Business Analysis Professional, a credential offered by the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA). It is designed for seasoned business analysis professionals who lead BA efforts and influence strategic change within organizations. The certification recognizes a practitioner’s ability to apply business analysis principles across the lifecycle and to mentor others on BA best practices.

Certification validates mastery of BA techniques and knowledge aligned with the BABOK Guide, the IIBA’s core body of knowledge. The CBAP exam assesses understanding and application across the six BABOK knowledge areas: Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring; Elicitation and Collaboration; Requirements Life Cycle Management; Strategy Analysis; Requirements Analysis and Design Definition; and Solution Evaluation. Candidates are expected to demonstrate both breadth and depth of practice in these areas, including the ability to scope work, analyze and define requirements, and evaluate solutions.

Eligibility requires substantial professional experience in business analysis. Applicants must document BA work hours accumulated within a defined period, show professional development activities, and provide references from supervisors or colleagues. They must also agree to the IIBA Code of Conduct and complete an application review before sitting the exam.

Certification process typically involves IIBA validation of eligibility followed by a proctored examination. Renewal or ongoing maintenance of the credential is achieved through continuing professional development, ensuring CBAP holders stay current with industry practices. The CBAP is widely recognized in fields such as IT, business operations, and management consulting.
