Bíborosok

Bíborosok, also known as Purple People or The Violet Company, was a historical Hungarian youth organization active primarily in the early 20th century. The group emerged from a desire to foster national identity and cultural awareness among young Hungarians, often drawing inspiration from romantic nationalist ideals. Their activities typically involved organizing cultural events, literary circles, and excursions aimed at promoting Hungarian history, language, and folk traditions.

The name "bíborosok" itself, meaning "purple ones," likely alluded to a sense of distinction and perhaps a connection to historical Hungarian regalia or a symbolic color. While not a political party in the strict sense, the bíborosok often held conservative viewpoints and expressed a strong sense of patriotism. Their membership was generally drawn from the educated middle class and intellectual circles.

The organization's influence peaked in the interwar period, a time when Hungary grappled with the consequences of World War I and sought to reassert its national identity. The bíborosok contributed to the cultural landscape through their publications, lectures, and public gatherings. Like many similar youth movements of the era, their activities gradually waned with the changing political climate and the outbreak of World War II, and the organization eventually dissolved.
