Bussfiler

Bussfiler is a term used in some Swedish-language technical literature to describe devices or software that filter traffic on a bus. The exact meaning depends on context, but it generally refers to mechanisms that allow only selected signals or messages to pass, while suppressing or discarding others. In Swedish, buss means bus and filer can mean filters or files, hence the ambiguity.

In hardware contexts, bussfiler can denote filters implemented at a bus interface or within a transceiver to reduce noise, limit bandwidth, or enforce access control on a data or control bus. They may be simple electrical filters, such as inductive or capacitive networks, or more complex logic-based blocks that drop messages outside a node's address space or priority level. In automotive and industrial networks, bus filtering is used to improve reliability and determinism on shared communication lines such as CAN or EtherCAT.
