Brussels-South, known in French as Gare du Midi and in Dutch as Brussel-Zuid, is the main railway station serving Brussels and the surrounding region. Located in the southern part of the city near Place du Midi, it is the largest and busiest railway hub in Belgium by passenger numbers and a major gateway for international rail travel.

The station provides a comprehensive mix of services, including long-distance and regional trains. It is an international rail hub with high-speed services to Paris and Amsterdam, and direct Eurostar trains to London via the Channel Tunnel. It also offers domestic intercity connections to major Belgian cities and regional links to the broader Flemish and Walloon networks. Brussels-South is integrated with the city’s transit system, with access to the Brussels Metro (lines 2 and 6) and to numerous tram and bus lines, making it a key interchange for travelers.

Historically, the site has long been a central transport node. The North–South connection under Brussels, completed in the 1960s, linked the station with the city’s north-south axis and improved cross-city travel. In the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the station underwent extensive renovations to handle increasing passenger flows and the introduction of high-speed services, including improvements to the concourse, track layout, and passenger amenities.

Facilities at Brussels-South include a large central hall, ticketing offices, information services, retail outlets, and passenger conveniences designed to accommodate high passenger volumes. The station also serves as a focal point for international rail travel in Belgium and provides convenient access to central Brussels for travelers arriving from abroad.
