Bronkodilatatorë

Bronkodilatatorë, also known as bronchodilators, are medications that widen the airways in the lungs. They are commonly used to treat respiratory conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and bronchitis. These medications work by relaxing the muscles that surround the airways, which can become constricted during an exacerbation of these conditions. This relaxation allows for easier breathing and relief from symptoms like wheezing, shortness of breath, and coughing.

There are several types of bronchodilators, with the most common being beta-agonists and anticholinergics. Short-acting beta-agonists (SABAs) provide rapid relief and are often used as a rescue medication. Long-acting beta-agonists (LABAs) provide longer-lasting effects and are typically used for daily maintenance therapy. Anticholinergics work by blocking a neurotransmitter that causes airway muscles to contract, also helping to open up the airways.

Bronchodilators are usually administered through an inhaler, which delivers the medication directly to the lungs. They can also be given via a nebulizer, a machine that turns liquid medication into a fine mist for inhalation. While generally safe and effective, bronchodilators can have side effects, which may include increased heart rate, tremors, or nervousness. It is important to use bronchodilators as prescribed by a healthcare professional to manage respiratory symptoms effectively.
