Bretagnen

Bretagnen is a small municipality and town in the fictional nation of Eyrland, located in the Nordhaven region on the eastern coast of the continent of Asteria. It lies along the inlet of Lumen Bay and serves as a local service center for surrounding rural communities. The municipality covers 42 square kilometers and had a population of about 3,400 in 2022.

Geographically, Bretagnen features a coastal plain with gently rolling hills inland. The area enjoys a temperate maritime climate, with mild summers and relatively wet winters. The town center sits near the water, while the surrounding countryside is used mainly for small-scale farming and forestry.

Historically, Bretagnen developed as a fishing and trading port in the medieval period. It gained municipal status in the 19th century and gradually diversified toward local services and small industry. The harbor remains central to the town’s identity, though tourism and aquaculture have grown in importance.

The local economy is anchored by fishing and seafood processing, small-scale agriculture, and light manufacturing. In recent years, Bretagnen has sought to attract visitors through waterfront promenades, cultural events, and a coastal trail network. Public services include a secondary school, a library, and a health clinic.

Governance is provided by a 17-member municipal council elected for four-year terms. The current mayor is Freya Holm, who leads a cross-partisan administration. The town is served by a regional road network and a rail line linking it to the regional capital; the nearest international airport is in the nearby port city of Farhaven.
