Breechsynnytys

Breechsynnytys, also known as breech birth, is a type of childbirth where the baby is positioned in a transverse or oblique position, meaning the baby's feet or bottom are facing the mother's back or side instead of the birth canal. This position can increase the risk of complications during labor and delivery. Breech presentations can be classified into three types: complete breech, where the baby's feet are facing the mother's back; frank breech, where the baby's feet are facing the mother's side; and footling breech, where the baby's feet are facing the mother's back but the head is still engaged in the birth canal.

Breech presentations can occur at any stage of pregnancy, but they are more common in later stages. The risk of breech presentation increases with each subsequent pregnancy. Breech births can be managed in several ways, including expectant management, where the mother is monitored closely for signs of labor, or operative management, where a cesarean section is performed to deliver the baby. The choice of management depends on various factors, including the mother's health, the baby's position, and the progress of labor.

Breech births can be associated with certain complications, such as prolonged labor, fetal distress, and maternal hemorrhage. However, with proper medical care, breech births can be managed safely and successfully. It is important for expectant mothers to be aware of the signs of labor and to seek medical attention if they experience any complications during childbirth.
