Boleroderived refers to a classification of rock types that originate from the alteration of volcanic rocks, specifically those belonging to the basalt family. These rocks typically exhibit a fine-grained texture and are often found in ancient volcanic terrains. The term "boleroderived" indicates a genetic relationship, suggesting that the present rock was once a basaltic lava flow or pyroclastic deposit that has undergone significant post-eruptive changes.

The alteration processes can include hydrothermal activity, weathering, and low-grade metamorphism. These processes lead to the transformation of the original mineralogy of the basalt. For instance, primary minerals like plagioclase feldspar and pyroxene may be replaced by secondary minerals such as chlorite, epidote, calcite, and quartz.
