Bokaszalagsérülések

Bokaszalagsérülések, commonly known as ankle sprains, occur when the ligaments that support the ankle are stretched or torn. These ligaments are crucial for stabilizing the ankle joint. The most frequent type of ankle sprain involves the lateral ligaments, on the outside of the ankle, which are usually injured when the foot rolls inward. Medial ligament sprains, on the inside, are less common.

Symptoms of a bokaszalagsérülés can range from mild pain and swelling to severe pain, bruising, and an inability to bear weight on the affected foot. The severity is often categorized into grades: Grade I for mild stretching, Grade II for partial tearing, and Grade III for complete rupture of a ligament. Diagnosis typically involves a physical examination, and in some cases, imaging tests like X-rays or MRI may be used to rule out fractures or assess the extent of ligament damage.

Treatment for ankle sprains generally follows the RICE protocol: Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. Rest helps prevent further injury, ice reduces swelling and pain, compression bandages limit swelling, and elevation keeps the injured limb above heart level to aid fluid drainage. For more severe sprains, physical therapy is often recommended to restore strength, flexibility, and balance to the ankle, helping to prevent future injuries and ensure a full return to activity. In rare cases of complete rupture or persistent instability, surgical intervention might be considered.
