Bofill

Bofill is a surname of Catalan origin. The name is associated with several figures across fields, most notably the architect Ricardo Bofill (1939–2022).

Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura (RBT) was founded by Ricardo Bofill in 1963. The firm became known for transforming industrial structures into expressive spaces and for a postmodern vocabulary that mixed modernist and classical references. Bofill's projects span Europe and beyond and include urban design, cultural venues, and housing.

Selected works include La Fàbrica in Barcelona (the studio's home), Walden 7 in Sant Just Desvern, the Antigone district in Montpellier, and the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya in Barcelona. Bofill's architecture is praised for sculptural forms and monumental massing, and for a renewed use of classical proportions, while critics have debated its eclecticism and bold color. He died in 2022.
