Bodemperspectief

Bodemperspectief, which translates to "ground perspective" or "worm's-eye view" in English, is a photographic and cinematic technique where the camera is placed at a very low angle, close to the ground. This perspective dramatically alters the viewer's perception of scale and dominance within the frame. Objects that are typically seen from a standing height appear much larger and more imposing when viewed from below, while the sky or ceiling can seem vast and overwhelming.

This technique is often employed to emphasize the size and power of a subject, such as a tall building, a large animal, or a prominent person. It can create a sense of awe or intimidation in the viewer. Conversely, it can also make the viewer feel small or insignificant in comparison to their surroundings.

In cinematography, bodemperspectief can be used to convey a particular character's point of view, especially if that character is a child, an animal, or someone in a vulnerable position. It can also be used for stylistic purposes to create a dynamic or unusual visual composition. The effect is achieved by physically positioning the camera low to the ground, often requiring specialized equipment or creative staging to capture the desired angle. The resulting images can be striking and memorable, offering a fresh and often dramatic interpretation of familiar scenes.
