Bladzijde

Bladzijde is a Dutch term used to refer to a page in a book or document, especially the physical page side of a sheet. The word derives from blad (leaf) and zijde (side). In everyday use it is often synonymous with pagina, but bladzijde emphasizes the physical side of a leaf, as opposed to the abstract concept of a page as a unit of numbering.

A book sheet (blad) contains two sides, commonly called the recto and verso in scholarly descriptions. In catalogues and bibliographies the sides may be indicated as bladzijde 12r (recto) or 12v (verso). In practice the term is used when describing physical attributes of a volume or its pagination history, or in reference to manuscripts where the side matters for decoration, marginalia, or inscriptions.

In modern publishing, pagina is the standard term for a page in digital or print editions, while bladzijde remains common in library cataloging and palaeography to denote the physical page.
