Bizanese is a fictional language created for worldbuilding in speculative fiction and tabletop role-playing. In its setting, it is the native tongue of the Bizanese people who inhabit the island archipelago of Bizia and nearby coastlines. The language is described as a maritime, trade-oriented tongue with a rich system of derivation and metaphor.

Origins and classification: In the in-world history, Bizanese evolved from Proto-Bizana through contact with coastal travelers and island communities. It is treated as a standalone branch in the fictional Bizanic language family, with no direct link to real-world language families. Dialects developed regionally across northern, southern, and coastal areas.

Phonology and writing: Bizanese has five vowel phonemes /a e i o u/ and a consonant inventory including p t k b d g m n s h l r w y. Syllables typically conform to CV or CVC patterns; stress is generally penultimate. The indigenous script, Bizanic, is a semi-syllabary used in inscriptions and literature; modern writers commonly use a Latin-based orthography with diacritics to indicate tone and vowel quality.

Grammar: The language follows a basic SVO order in simple clauses. Nouns have minimal inflection; plurality is marked with a suffix, while case relations are expressed with postpositions. Verbs encode aspect and mood through particles; pronouns distinguish inclusive and exclusive 'we.' The lexicon emphasizes maritime, trade, and communal life, with many idioms tied to navigation and weather.

Status and variation: In the fictional world, Bizanese is taught in schools, used in media, and employed in government communication within Bizia. Three regional varieties—Northern, Southern, and Coastal Bizanese—display characteristic phonological and lexical differences.
