Electrophysiology methods, including electroencephalography, electrocardiography, and electromyography, record electrical activity at cranial, cardiac, and muscular levels. Bioelectrical impedance analysis uses low‑frequency alternating currents to estimate body composition by measuring the resistance and reactance of tissues. In regenerative biology, spontaneous electrical gradients have been shown to guide tissue patterning and wound healing; studies in amphibian limb regeneration and sea urchin embryo development demonstrate that modulating these gradients can influence growth and repair.

The biomedical field also applies bioelectric principles therapeutically. Electrical stimulation therapies, such as transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and spinal cord stimulation, manage pain, enhance motor recovery, and promote tissue repair. In oncology, emerging research explores whether engineered bioelectric cues can suppress tumor growth or re‑educate cancer cells. Moreover, research on electrosensory animals, like sharks and electric fish, provides insights into how organisms detect and generate electric fields, informing biomimetic sensor design.
