Bimetallilämpömittareina

Bimetallilämpömittareina, known in English as bimetallic thermometers, are devices used to measure temperature based on the principle of differential thermal expansion of two dissimilar metals. Typically, these metals are bonded together in a strip or coil. When the temperature changes, each metal expands or contracts at a different rate. This difference in expansion causes the bimetallic strip to bend.

The amount of bending is directly proportional to the temperature change. This bending motion is then translated into a reading on a calibrated scale, often via a pointer or needle. The two metals commonly used are brass and steel, or copper and invar (an alloy of iron and nickel), chosen for their distinct coefficients of thermal expansion.

Bimetallic thermometers are relatively simple, robust, and cost-effective, making them suitable for a wide range of applications. They are often found in household appliances like ovens and thermostats, as well as in industrial settings for monitoring temperatures in pipelines, engines, and HVAC systems. Their accuracy is generally good for many common temperature ranges, although they may not be as precise as some other types of thermometers for very sensitive measurements. They do not require external power and are not susceptible to vibration, which are advantages in certain environments.
