Bikarbonaattilla

Bikarbonaattilla, also known as sodium bicarbonate or baking soda, is a chemical compound with the formula NaHCO₃. It is a salt composed of sodium cations (Na⁺) and bicarbonate anions (HCO₃⁻). Bikarbonaattilla is a white crystalline powder that is slightly alkaline and has a mild salty taste.

In its pure form, bikarbonaattilla is a stable solid. However, when heated or mixed with an acid, it decomposes, releasing carbon dioxide gas, water, and a sodium salt. This property makes it a common leavening agent in baking. The carbon dioxide produced causes dough and batter to rise, resulting in a lighter texture.

Beyond its culinary uses, bikarbonaattilla has numerous other applications. It is frequently used as an antacid to neutralize stomach acid and relieve heartburn. It also serves as a cleaning agent due to its mild abrasive properties and ability to absorb odors. In personal care, it can be found in toothpaste and deodorants. Industrially, it is utilized in fire extinguishers, water treatment, and the production of other chemicals.
