Bihåleundersökningar refers to medical examinations of the paranasal sinuses, which are air-filled cavities within the bones of the skull surrounding the nasal passages. These investigations are conducted to diagnose and assess conditions affecting the sinuses, such as sinusitis, polyps, or tumors. The process typically involves a medical history, where the patient describes their symptoms, and a physical examination, which may include looking inside the nose.

Various imaging techniques are commonly employed for bihåleundersökningar. Plain X-rays of the sinuses can sometimes provide initial information, but computed tomography (CT) scans are generally considered more detailed and are often the preferred method for visualizing the complex anatomy of the sinuses and surrounding structures. CT scans can reveal inflammation, fluid buildup, bony changes, and the extent of any disease.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may also be used, particularly when there is suspicion of soft tissue involvement, such as tumors or infections spreading to adjacent areas.
