Biglettered is a term used to describe text where individual letters are significantly larger than the surrounding text, often to draw attention or for emphasis. This can be achieved through various typographical methods, such as increasing the font size of specific characters or using larger font styles. While not a formal typographical term, it is commonly understood in design and digital contexts.

The purpose of using big letters varies. In graphic design, they might be employed as a stylistic element, creating visual interest or a sense of grandeur. In user interfaces, a single large letter might be used to highlight a key feature or a prominent title element. On the web, this effect can be implemented using CSS font size properties or HTML tags that allow for larger text rendering.

However, overuse of biglettered text can detract from readability and create a cluttered appearance. It's important to use this technique judiciously to ensure that the intended message remains clear and aesthetically pleasing. In some instances, large initial letters, known as drop caps, are used at the beginning of a chapter or section in print media as a decorative element, which shares a similar visual characteristic of being larger than the body text.
