Beyolu

Beyolu is a coastal town and municipality in the fictional region of Aralia within the country of Alaris. It lies on a narrow peninsula facing the Gulf of Nereid and has a population of about 18,000 as of 2024. The local economy combines fishing, small-scale manufacturing, and tourism. The name Beyolu is commonly traced to a historic Bey (a provincial governor) and the Turkic root olu, meaning place or settlement.

Geography and climate: Beyolu sits on limestone cliffs with sandy coves, backed by low hills. The climate is Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters.

History: The town grew around a hilltop fortress built in the 13th century by the Beyoglu line. It developed as a market port in the medieval period and became part of the unified Alaris state in the 19th century. The harbor was modernized in the late 20th century, expanding fishing and light industry.

Culture and landmarks: The Beyolu Fortress remains the dominant landmark, alongside the Old Fish Market and the Maritime Museum. The annual Seabreeze Festival showcases local music, seafood, and crafts. The town preserves traditional coffeehouses and a weekly market.

Infrastructure and demographics: Beyolu is connected by a coastal highway to the regional capital and is served by regular buses and a small ferry service. The municipality administers primary and secondary schools, a community college, and a small hospital. The population is predominantly Alarian with minority communities, and local languages include the Alarian dialect of Turkish influence.
