Betaglobingen

Betaglobingen is a small municipality in the fictional country of Veridia, located in the Nordkreis district. It lies along the Linde River and comprises a compact village center surrounded by farmland and woodland. The municipality covers about 18 square kilometers. The population is predominantly German-speaking, with a mix of families, commuters, and retirees; recent estimates place it around 2,800 residents. The local economy centers on agriculture—primarily dairy farming and crops such as wheat and maize—and small-scale manufacturing, including woodworking and metalworking, along with local services.

The history of Betaglobingen dates back to at least the 12th century, with the first documentary reference in 1132. The town developed around a parish church and a rural market, surviving several regional conflicts and a 19th-century rebuild after a local fire. In the 20th century it gradually diversified, while preserving much of its historic townscape as part of a regional preservation program.

Governance is based on a municipal council of 12 members and a mayor, elected to four-year terms. The council oversees planning, local services, and cultural programs. Education is provided by a primary school; secondary students attend schools in neighboring towns.

Culturally, Betaglobingen hosts an annual harvest festival and a weekly farmers’ market. Notable sites include St. Michael’s Church, a late Gothic structure, and the 18th-century Betaglobingen Windmill, preserved as a historical monument. The town is connected by regional roads and bus services, with the nearest railway station in a neighboring community.
