Bergbausiedlungen, or mining settlements, are communities that emerged around mining operations, particularly in areas rich in mineral resources. These settlements were often established to house the workers and their families directly involved in the extraction of coal, iron ore, precious metals, or other valuable substances. Their development was intrinsically linked to the success and longevity of the mine itself.

The physical layout of these settlements varied greatly depending on the region, the type of mining, and the era in which they were founded.
